Oregon Ducks edge rusher Emar’rion Winston announced on Friday that he would be entering the transfer portal following the 2025 offseason, marking the end of his tenure in Eugene. A redshirt sophomore, Winston has spent three years with the Ducks, participating in 30 games during that time. Throughout his career at Oregon, he accumulated 27 tackles and recorded one tackle for loss.
Winston was highly regarded as a recruit, earning a 4-star rating and being ranked as the 28th best EDGE player in the 2022 class by 247Sports. His recruitment reflected his strong potential, particularly as a pass rusher, and he is expected to bring significant upside to any team that pursues him.
For Oregon, Winston’s decision to transfer is not entirely unexpected. The Ducks have a strong group of young, talented edge rushers on their roster, making it increasingly difficult for Winston to secure substantial playing time. With players like Matayo Uiagalelei, Teitum Tuioti, Blake Purchase, and Elijah Rushing all competing for snaps at the same position, it’s understandable that Winston might seek a fresh opportunity elsewhere. By transferring, he may have a better chance of securing a more prominent role and contributing to another program where there’s less competition for playing time.
