Mics Catch Vikings Coach’s Postgame Message to Kirk Cousins

Kirk Cousins made a return to U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday as the Atlanta Falcons faced off against his former team, the Minnesota Vikings. Unfortunately for Cousins and the Falcons, the game ended in a disappointing 42-21 blowout.

Though Cousins had a mixed performance, completing 23 of 37 passes for 344 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions, he took the time to reconnect with former teammates postgame. A particularly touching moment occurred between him and former coach Kevin O’Connell, highlighted by microphones capturing their exchange.

O’Connell embraced Cousins and praised him, saying, “Hey, I just want to tell you something. Every day I appreciate the days I got a chance to work with you.” Cousins responded warmly, expressing his gratitude: “Thanks for saying that. Likewise. Thank you. Great job.”

Cousins spent six impactful seasons with the Vikings before signing with the Falcons in the offseason. His departure left a mark on both his former teammates and coaches, as evidenced by O’Connell’s heartfelt acknowledgment.

Meanwhile, the Vikings, led by quarterback Sam Darnold—who threw for 347 yards and five touchdowns—secured their sixth consecutive victory, improving their record to 11-2. They remain in contention in the NFC North, trailing the first-place Detroit Lions, who boast an impressive 12-1 record and an 11-game winning streak.
