Tottenham have ‘outstanding’ £50m defender on their radar from Premier League rivals
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to compete with some other Premier League sides for a certain centre-back this summer, but he won’t come cheap.
Since landing at Tottenham, the defence has been a key area for improvement for Ange Postecoglou who has already seen considerable changes made.
Players like Eric Dier have been moved on and replaced by the likes of Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin over the last two transfer windows.
However, the Dutchman has shown his frailties when it comes to hamstring injuries meaning quality in depth will be crucial at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
With a season in the Europa League ahead of them, Spurs now have their eyes on a defender who has already racked up considerable Premier League experience.
Tottenham keen on £50m Premier League defender
In Cristian Romero and Van de Ven, Spurs have one of the strongest centre-back pairings in the league.
And in his opening game at this summer’s Euros, Dragusin has shown he is more than a capable third option for Postecoglou.
However, the 2024/25 campaign is expected to be a lot more challenging for Spurs with considerably more games to play in the Australian’s second term in charge.
As Postecoglou looks to bolster his side over the summer, it seems Spurs have turned their attention to a player who is also wanted by a number of other Premier League sides.
According to GiveMeSport, Spurs are considering Wolves’ Max Kilman as an option to target this summer.
It is claimed Spurs and Manchester United join West Ham in their interest in the Englishman who did not enter the frame for Gareth Southgate’s Euros squad.
However, a move for the 27-year-old would not come cheap with Wolves believed to have set a whopping £50m price tag on their centre-back.
Max Kilman the right idea but the wrong price
It has to be remembered Tottenham are looking to add a fourth centre-back to their rotation this summer, so the calibre of player they could land may be limited.
With that in mind, Kilman could make the perfect addition given he is a Premier League regular with Wolves.
However, £50m for a player who would play as infrequently as Kilman potentially would is a staggering amount of money – especially when Dragusin cost around half of that.
Clearly, Kilman is a player who is held in high regard with his former teammate Conor Coady hailing him during their time together at Molineux.
“I thought he was outstanding, but I would expect nothing else from him. He’s brilliant to have around and is a brilliant professional,” Coady told the Wolves website.
He feels like a good fit for what Spurs need, but the price tag also feels well above what Spurs should be looking to spend on a centre-back.
