This week, English supporters ridiculed James Maddison on social media after the Tottenham midfielder’s errant shot during the friendly match against Australia.
On Friday, October 13, Gareth Southgate selected the 26-year-old, who had been playing well for Spurs in the Premier League, to start for the Three Lions.
After moving from Leicester City to Tottenham during the summer transfer window, Maddison has eight league games with two goals and five assists.
Nevertheless, despite his club’s success this year, Maddison had a forgettable moment on Friday while wearing an England jersey when he cut inside from the left and fired a shot that went out for a throw-in.
England supporters mocked the midfielder on X, formerly known as Twitter, as Maddison was busy looking down and blaming the pitch.
Some spectators found the humour in Maddison’s shot and laughed quickly at the midfielder.
Others seized the opportunity to make fun of the Spurs by using Maddison’s errant shot.
A few supporters argued that Maddison’s performance was possibly the worst they had ever seen on a football pitch.
Even worse than Geoff Thomas’ goal against France in 1992, in this fan’s opinion, Maddison’s shot against England was the worst in the team’s history.
Others were not amused by Maddison’s poor shot and used the opportunity to mock his skill.
Meanwhile, in other news, Jonathan David, a forward for the Canadian national team who plays for Lille in Ligue 1, is a target for Tottenham.
According to Fichajes, the striker is worth €40 million, and Tottenham is looking to sign him in the near future. The Canadian international may be the best successor for Harry Kane, who the North London club has not yet signed a decent replacement for.
Richarlison, for example, has not been able to step up and fill the vacuum left by Kane, and the Brazilian’s performance has been very dismal. Son Heung-min has become too dependent on Tottenham for goals, therefore the club will need to add extra options in case the South Korean international sustains an injury or requires a break.
David scored 26 goals in all competitions last season, demonstrating his consistency as a goal scorer in the French league. For him, the prospect of signing for a Premier League team will be enticing. Possibly having the funds to sign the player are Tottenham.
Long-term, signing him for €40 million can turn out to be a great deal. The 23-year-old is still fairly young, and training and experience can only make him better.

Manchester City star Jack Grealish was reportedly heard chanting Tottenham Hotspur full-back Destiny Udogie’s name during England’s celebrations after qualifying for the Euros this week.
That’s according to The Sun, with the outlet claiming that both James Maddison and Jack Grealish ‘raised a glass’ to Udogie as group of England players celebrated at a bar after Tuesday’s win over Italy.
Udogie started for the first time for Italy on Tuesday night and put in an impressive display despite suffering a 3-1 defeat.
The 20-year-old earned praise from Gianfranco Zola during the game, with the Chelsea legend labelling his display as ‘fantastic’.
He was eventually replaced by Federico Dimarco just after the hour mark after picking up a yellow card in the opening period.
But after an encouraging start to life at Tottenham, Udogie impressed in what was his first competitive start for the Italians. And it seems that Manchester City’s Grealish was impressed after what he saw from the youngster.

The Sun reports that Maddison and Grealish were among a group of England players who headed out to celebrate qualifying for next year’s Euros.
Grealish came close to joining Tottenham a few years back only for the deal to fall through during his time at Aston Villa.
The Englishman went on to become the most expensive British player and picked up a treble with City last season.
It’s certainly one of the more surprising stories of the day to hear that Grealish and Maddison were chanting Udogie’s name after England’s win.
But the youngster has excelled in a Tottenham shirt this season and Maddison would have already been fully aware of the £15 million youngster’s talent. Now, it would appear that Grealish is also a fan of the talented Spurs full-back.
