Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian may have gone a bit overboard with his recent praise of the Florida Gators, the team Texas is preparing to face next. In a press conference, Sarkisian called Florida “arguably the best-looking team in the SEC,” a statement that’s left many fans scratching their heads, given the Gators’ current 4-4 record and their No. 12 ranking in the SEC. Florida has struggled in several areas, including offensive output and defense, averaging only 244.8 passing yards and allowing 24.9 points per game.
While the Longhorns boast a strong offense, ranked 16th in the FBS and averaging 39.1 points per game, Sarkisian’s comment seemed especially surprising considering Texas’ recent loss to SEC leader Georgia. Many feel he may have taken his compliments a bit too far, especially as Florida head coach Billy Napier faces increasing scrutiny and a potentially hot seat in the Power Five.
