Four Canucks prospects invited to the 2024 World Junior Summer Showcase

Four prospects from the Vancouver Canucks have been selected to participate in the 2024 World Junior Summer Showcase, offering fans an opportunity to stay connected with the team’s upcoming talent pool.

Team Canada recently finalized its roster for the event, including two Canucks prospects: Anthony Romani, who was picked in the sixth round, and Sawyer Mynio, selected in the third round of the 2023 draft. Romani, hailing from Pickering, Ontario, enters the showcase following an impressive season in the Ontario Hockey League, where he tallied an outstanding 58 goals and 111 points. His selection marks a notable achievement given his draft position. On the other hand, Mynio, after a successful year with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL, notched 16 goals and 53 points, placing him fifth among WHL defensemen.

Joining them in the showcase are two other Canucks prospects who will represent Team Sweden. Tom Willander, the team’s first-round pick in 2023, is anticipated to play a pivotal role on defense, while Melvin Fernström, a third-round selection, will also contribute to Sweden’s lineup.

The World Junior Summer Showcase, scheduled from July 26 to August 3 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan, serves as a key preparation phase for coaches to assess and finalize their lineups ahead of the 2025 World Junior Championship in Ottawa, Canada. Participating teams will include split squads from Canada, along with teams from the U.S., Finland, and Sweden.

For Team Canada, the schedule is as follows: they will kick off with an intra-squad match between Canada Red and Canada White on July 30, followed by games against Sweden on July 31, Finland on August 2, and concluding against the USA on August 3. Meanwhile, Team Sweden will compete against USA Blue on July 28, USA White on July 29, Finland on August 2, and a final match against the USA on August 3.
