The Philadelphia Eagles have been announced as the host team for the NFL’s upcoming inaugural international game in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which will take place on Friday, September 6, as part of the opening week of the season. This game marks the league’s first Friday match of the opening week since 1970. The opposing team for the Eagles has yet to be revealed, and it will not be announced until later this spring, before the unveiling of the full schedule in May. This announcement could have an impact on the Browns, as part of their scheduled road matchups includes playing against the Eagles. Other potential teams that could face Philadelphia in the debut Brazil game include the Steelers, Jaguars, Falcons, Panthers, and Packers.
It is worth noting that the Cleveland Browns have only participated in one international game since the NFL turned it into an annual practice in 2007. They traveled to London to face the Minnesota Vikings in late October 2017, resulting in a 33-16 win for the Vikings.
Interestingly, the Cleveland Browns are one of only seven teams in the NFL to have played only one international game to date. The other teams that fall under this category are Pittsburgh, Carolina, Washington, Dallas, Green Bay, and Philadelphia. Among these, the Eagles and Panthers already have a spot reserved for them in the NFL’s 2024 international schedule as they are designated teams playing in Munich, Germany. Meanwhile, the Bears, Vikings, and Jaguars are set to play a game in London next year.
