Aston Villa and Robin Le Normand transfer: Lowdown on Unai Emery’s €60m ‘priority’

Aston Villa are said to be interested in signing Real Sociedad defender Robin Le Normand.

The summer transfer window may have slammed shut at the being of September, but clubs are still being linked with players as they look towards strengthening their squads in January.

One of those players is Le Normand who according to Spanish outlet Fichajes is of interest to Villa. BirminghamLive provides you with everything you need to know about the centre-back below…

Career so far

The 26-year-old was born in Pabu, France. He rose through the Stade Brest youth academy before joining the Real Sociedad B team on a free transfer in 2016.

He has gone on to make 183 appearances for Sociedad’s senior side and was part of the La Liga team’s historic Copa del Rey triumph in 2020 when they beat rivals Athletic Bilbao 1-0 in the final. He was also part of the Spain squad which won the Nations League this summer, beating Croatia on penalties in the final after a 0-0 draw.

Sociedad contract

Le Normand is under contract until 2026 and is claimed to have a release clause of €50million.

Speaking about his future earlier this summer, he said: “Since I arrived I found a very good dynamic, it is a luxury to be in this club; they train us, they support us as soccer players and as people, they prepare us.

“They have given me almost everything. I arrived and I had almost no quality to play in Segunda [second division].

Arsenal links

Arsenal are claimed to have scouted the defender according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. Speaking about the Gunners’ reported interest in April, he said that “nothing is concrete yet.”
