The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose sees no reason why a deal hasn’t already been signed off.
Fabrizio Romano reported via X (7 June) that talks are advancing between Spurs and Genoa over the sale of Spence, with all parties keen to reach an agreement in June.
It was previously reported (via Fabrizio Romano on X, 10 January) that Genoa had an £8.5million buy-option inserted into their loan agreement for Spence.
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t understand why that hasn’t been activated.
I do see Spence being sold to Genoa,” Wenham said.
“However, I am frustrated by the delay.
“They have an £8.5million buy-option for Spence which is incredibly cheap for someone with resell value, yet they’re trying to negotiate a lower fee.
“It is baffling how these European clubs plead poverty but always seem to make huge sales every summer. We handed over more than £20million for Radu Dragusin to Genoa just last January.
“However, I think Spence will eventually go because they seem to like him there.”

It seems odd that Spurs aren’t insisting on Genoa paying the £8.5million which was agreed.
New negotiations can only point toward the Serie A side trying to lower the fee.
In any other situation, Daniel Levy would be unlikely to entertain this.
But Spence needs to be moved on.
As a result, Spurs might be forced to accept new terms for the defender.
