According to AL.com and Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, Khurtiss Perry, a football player for the University of Alabama, will enter the transfer portal. He is the first Alabama football player on scholarship to make plans to leave Tuscaloosa during the spring transfer window.
Perry’s representatives at A&P Sports Agency confirmed his departure. Last season, Perry appeared in one game and redshirted in 2022. Head coach Kalen DeBoer was asked about his message to the team with the portal window open until April 30, and he emphasized focusing on themselves, the team, and improving during the upcoming A-Day event.
During the Tide’s spring scrimmage, Perry was not heavily involved and had to adjust to defensive coordinator Kane Wommack, along with the rest of the defense. Perry, who was a highly-recruited four-star prospect from Pike Road, excelled in high school as both an edge rusher and interior defensive lineman. He recorded 22 sacks, won a state title, and was named the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 5A Player of the Year. However, his versatility did not translate as effectively under Nick Saban and the coaching staff at Alabama.
In addition to Khurtiss Perry, there have been a total of 13 scholarship defensive players from last year’s Week 1 roster at the University of Alabama who have entered the transfer portal. However, the defensive line room was not significantly affected by these departures. The defensive line will still have returning players such as Jehiem Oatis, Tim Smith, Tm Keenan III, James Smith, Hunter Osborne, and Damon Payne Jr. Furthermore, the team has also added transfer player LT Overton from Texas A&M to strengthen the defensive line.
