Martin St. Louis made his return to the bench as the Montreal Canadiens faced off against the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena on Tuesday. St. Louis had been away from the team since March 16 due to family reasons. His 16-year-old son, Mason, suffered an injury while playing for U15 Mid-Fairfield in Connecticut, and a week later, he experienced complications that led to hospitalization.
Fortunately, Mason’s condition has stabilized, and he is now recovering at the family’s home in Connecticut. St. Louis expressed his gratitude to the Canadiens organization, fans, and the hockey community for their understanding and support during Mason’s injury and recovery. He also extended his appreciation to the doctors and nurses who provided care. St. Louis requested privacy for his family and asked the focus to remain on the Canadiens team and the rest of the 2023-24 season.
During St. Louis’ absence, assistant coach Trevor Letowski took over as the head coach. The Canadiens went 1-2-1 on a five-game road trip, which will conclude in Colorado. St. Louis thanked team owner Geoff Molson, general manager Jeff Gorton, assistant general manager Kent Hughes, as well as Trevor Letowski, the players, coaches, and hockey operations staff for their understanding and support during his time away. St. Louis emphasized the importance of his family and expressed his gratitude for the support they received.
This season, the Canadiens have a record of 26-32-12, marking their third season under Martin St. Louis’ leadership.
