The Brisbane Broncos have made history by becoming the first NRL club to achieve a record-breaking 50,000 members in a single season. This remarkable milestone comes after the club’s membership totals of 47,300 in 2023, 36,800 in 2022, and 28,533 in 2021, demonstrating a consistent growth in recent years.
The achievement was officially confirmed by the club prior to the start of the 2024 season. At present, the Broncos boast an impressive membership count of 53,672 and have set a target of reaching at least 60,000 members by the midpoint of the season.
CEO Dave Donaghy expressed his enthusiasm for this accomplishment, stating that it had been a goal for the club over the past few seasons. He attributed the achievement to the Broncos’ strong performance and Grand Final appearance in the previous year, as well as the continuous efforts of the team behind the scenes who have worked diligently to enhance the membership experience and foster a sense of pride among the supporters.
“It is a testament to the immense affection the city, the state, and now fans worldwide have for our club. Our players are aware of the privileged position we hold in the hearts of our supporters.
The connection between the club and its fans feels stronger than ever at this moment.
While these numbers are still a fraction compared to those seen in the AFL, where club memberships have long been ingrained in fan culture and exceed the 100,000 mark, there is no reason why we can’t achieve that level as an NRL club. I take pride in the fact that the Brisbane Broncos are leading the way in this regard.
Our next target is 60,000 members, and we anticipate celebrating that milestone by the time of the State of Origin series, if not sooner.”
