There are a number of players attracting interest in January and Miguel Almiron is the latest after it was reported that Al-Shabab are keen on signing the Paraguayan.
However, their initial bid is believed to have been rejected and Aarons is now reporting on X that Newcastle are looking for £30m if they are to depart with Almiron.
Newcastle prepared to sell ‘very good’ player
Almiron has been crucial to the way Eddie Howe likes his team to play – high intensity and high pressing which is exactly what the winger is best at.
Even if his record in the final third isn’t the greatest, he suits the system down to a tee and it is also his defensive efforts which help the team out massively and make him a ‘very good‘ part of the Newcastle team.
However, Newcastle are looking to upgrade the right-wing position in the summer as Almiron’s three goal contributions this season just isn’t good enough, but they need to be careful with the type of player they bring in.
It’s all well and good signing a more talented winger to replace him but, like Anthony Gordon on the opposite flank, he needs to fit the system and be willing to work just as hard as Almiron.
It’s previously been reported by Craig Hope that Al-Shabab’s first offer of £17m was deemed not good enough by Newcastle who would only consider selling the player for £30m.
Almiron is just not good enough for where Newcastle want to be
Newcastle have very high hopes for the club, they want to be competing consistently in the Champions League, at the top of the Premier League and for both domestic trophies every season.
To do that they’re going have to invest a lot of money into the team and replace some of the players who are just not good enough to cut it at the very top, and unfortunately for Almiron he’s one of those.
He’s absolutely excelled under Howe and his performances and so much better than anyone could have expected when he was playing under Steve Bruce, but at 29-years-old there can’t be much more expected to come form him.
Newcastle desperately need more of a goal threat in that position and are already lining up some summer targets to potentially replace the Paraguay international.
