‘There seems to be a strong interest’: Sky journalist claims Tottenham are eyeing £40m speedster

Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with Jean-Clair Todibo in recent weeks.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is apparently looking to bolster his defensive ranks amid a personnel crisis at the back.

Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Tottenham would “100 percent” sign a new centre-back, adding that Todibo is one of their top targets.

Now, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has provided an update on the links between Spurs and the Nice defender.

Sheth, speaking on the Transfer Talk podcast, claims there appears to be a “strong interest” in Todibo from Tottenham.

However, the reporter also spoke at length about Manchester United’s prior interest in the player, adding the new connection between the Red Devils and Nice, via INEOS.

‘Connection with INEOS’

“I think the central defensive position is something that Tottenham will want to look at,” said Sheth.

“The player that they have been linked with and there seems to be a strong interest in is Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice.

“But there’s also that connection now and Manchester United have also been interested in Todibo in the last transfer window.

“I think he possibly was one of the players they were looking at should Harry Maguire had left.

“We all know what happened there, Harry Maguire ended up staying, Todibo ended up staying at Nice.

“But, you’ve also now got that connection with INEOS with the ownership at Nice being INEOS and them now having a 25% stake in Manchester United.”

Tottenham will have to be mindful of Manchester United in Jean-Clair Todibo race – TBR View

Spurs fans should certainly be keeping tabs on reports linking their club with Todibo, as they seem to have legs. Speculation is coming thick and fast ahead of the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old also ticks a lot of boxes for Postecoglou’s Tottenham. He’s an incredibly talented player with considerable experience, a high ceiling, and plenty of good characteristics.

One of those is his speed. Todibo is seriously rapid, as this video from Nice’s X account shows. After making a mistake in the opposition, he sprints back to make a vital block in his box.

However, Tottenham will have to be mindful of Man United potentially entering the race again and competing with them for the £40million-rated star’s signature.
