‘He’s sensational’: James Tarkowski says he told Harry Kane that Tottenham should sign £20m Everton player

James Tarkowski has admitted that he told Harry Kane that Tottenham should sign Dwight McNeil.

McNeil and Tarkowski are, of course, teammates at Everton now after the winger’s £20m switch from Burnley, but before they played together at Goodison Park, they played together at Turf Moor.

The winger made a real name for himself with the Clarets, and Tarkowski was tipping him up for a big move at the time.

Speaking on Ben Foster’s Podcast, the centre-back has now admitted that he told Kane that Spurs should sign McNeil.

Tarkowski tipped McNeil for Spurs

The defender spoke about his Everton teammate.

“I remember speaking to Harry Kane at Spurs one time and I said you have to look at Dwight McNeil, he is a sensational player and I think they signed [Ryan] Sessegnon after that. For me he is right up there with the wingers for me. His work rate is through the roof but he also has a left foot like a dream. He just strikes the ball so cleanly and some of the goals he has scored recently have been incredible,” Tarkoswki said.

Better than Sessegnon

We’re not going to pretend as though McNeil would’ve been this gamechanging signing for Tottenham and that they missed out on a star, but he would’ve been a better option than the alternative.

Indeed, sadly, the signing of Ryan Sessegnon at Tottenham has been nothing short of a disaster.

The former Fulham man has been hampered by injuries for years at this point, and he’s barely played any football for Tottenham really.

Meanwhile McNeil may not have ripped up any trees, but he’s been a handy Premier League player throughout this time and, in hindsight, he’d probably have been a better signing than Sessegnon.

Tarkowski must be glad that Spurs never signed McNeil, because now, he’s one of Everton’s better players.
