Graham Spiers has shared an instant reaction to Rangers defeating Real Betis in the Europa League group stages.
The Gers have finished top of Europa League Group C after beating the Spanish outfit 3-2 on Thursday (14 December).
Abdallah Sima, Cyriel Dessers and Kemar Roofe scored the goals for the visitors, with Juan Miranda and Ayoze Perez on target for the hosts.
He wrote on X: “Rangers score three in Spain tonight to advance to the last 16 of the Europa League as group winners.”
Huge win
Philippe Clement has had plenty of tough tests during his brief time as Rangers manager so far, but this was undoubtedly his toughest.
Betis were in formidable form at home, but the Gers really took the game to the home side, with attackers Sima, Dessers and Roofe all proving their composure in the final third with their goals.
The Rangers defence didn’t exactly cover themselves in glory with the two goals conceded, but neither they nor Clement will care much about that at this moment in time.
The massive victory means the Glasgow club have secured immediate progression to the knockout stages, having clinched 11 points from their six matches.
Remarkably, Betis dropped down to third place following the defeat, with Sparta Prague finishing second after defeating Aris Limassol 3-1.
The visiting Gers players and supporters certainly won’t forget this night in a hurry, although their attentions must quickly turn to the Viaplay Cup final against Aberdeen on Sunday (17 December).
