CHICAGO — In its 40th year of honoring the nation’s most elite high school athletes, Gatorade announced USC women’s basketball signee Jazzy Davidson of Clackamas High School as the 2024-25 Gatorade Oregon Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Now a four-time honoree, Davidson is the second Gatorade Oregon Girls Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from Clackamas High.
Gatorade Player of the Year is the top honor in high school sports, celebrating the nation’s best high school athletes for their success on the court, in the classroom and in the community. The award distinguishes Davidson as Oregon’s best high school girls basketball player, and she’s also been selected as a finalist for the distinguished Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year award to be announced in March. With her selection, Davidson joins an impressive group of alumni that spans CEOs, coaches and star athletes such as Candace Parker (2002-03 & 2003-04, Naperville Central High School, Illinois), Paige Bueckers (2019-20, Hopkins High School, Minnesota) and Joyce Edwards (2023-24, Camden High School, South Carolina).
At the time of her selection, the 6-foot-1 senior combo guard averaged 29.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.3 steals, 2.6 assists and 1.9 blocks this season, leading the Cavaliers (25-2) to the Class 6A state quarterfinals. Ranked as the nation’s No. 2 recruit in the Class of 2025 by Prospects Nation, Davidson is a three-time Gatorade Oregon Player of the Year and a 2024 Naismith Award finalist. A 2025 USA Women’s Basketball Nike Hoop Summit invitee, she is a McDonald’s All-American and was a 2025 Naismith Trophy finalist.
Davidson is a member of her school’s Athletic Leadership Council and has volunteered locally coaching at youth basketball camps and clinics. She has also donated her time with the school’s charitable giving initiative called Winter Blitz.
“Jazzy is a woman playing in a prep girls game,” said Matt Gist, head coach at Sandy High School. “The game just slows down for her and she sees everything that’s presented to her. She has all the tools: From her ability to play inside and finish around the basket to the ball-handling skills to handle any form of defensive pressure either full court or in the half court. Plus, Jazzy’s range extends defenses with her quality 3-ball. All these skills still don’t compare to her basketball IQ and the type of leader and person she is. Because of her character and how she treats teammates and opponents, you have no choice but to respect her game as a player and as an all round human being. She is truly the complete player and it was an honor to coach against her.”
Davidson has maintained a 3.6 GPA in the classroom. She has signed a written letter of athletic aid to play basketball at the University of Southern California this fall.
The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states across 12 different high school sports – football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track & field – and awards one National Player of the Year in each sport. The selection process is administered by the Gatorade Player of the Year Selection Committee, which leverages experts including coaches, scouts, media and others as sources to help evaluate and determine the state winners in each sport.
Four-time winner Davidson joins recent Gatorade Oregon Girls Basketball Players of the Year Aaronette Vonleh (2020-21, West Linn High School), among the state’s list of former award winners.
As part of Gatorade’s commitment to breaking down barriers in sport, every Player of the Year also receives a grant to donate to a social impact partner. To date, the Gatorade Player of the Year program has provided more than $5.6 million in grants to winners across more than 2,000 organizations.
