However, there isn’t much previous when it comes to an Australian club appointing an English head coach and if the report of their interest is to be believed, it speaks volumes about the work Peet has done at the Brick Community Stadium.

Under Peet’s stewardship, Wigan completed an historic quadruple on Saturday evening, with the Warriors adding to the Super League title to their 2024 haul of the World Club Challenge, the Challenge Cup and the League Leaders’ Shield. Saturday’s win at Old Trafford also saw the Cherry and Whites retain their Super League crown as they further established themselves as the dominant force in the Northern Hemisphere.
Peet only took the Wigan reins in 2022, having worked his way through the coaching ranks at the club and his impact has been remarkable. In three seasons he has lifted seven trophies and his success saw him rewarded earlier this year with a seven-year contract.
How easy it would be to get the 40-year-old out of that contract remains to be seen, with Wigan undoubtedly being keen to retain his services at all costs.
Speaking to the BBC after Wigan’s Grand Final win over Hull KR, CEO Kris Radlinski outlined his belief that Peet can help take the club to the next level.
Matty absorbs information from everybody, asks loads of questions and he has an incredible growth mindset. He has found a connection with this group and he wants to get better,” Radlinski said.
“He is surrounded by a humble group of blokes who want to take this to greater places. I don’t know where it ends because they are all saying they want more and that’s really special.”
