Opacic, currently with Hull Kingston Rovers in the English Super League, is set to leave the club a year before his contract is up. His potential move back to Brisbane would complete a full circle in his career, as the Broncos were where he first debuted in the NRL in 2016.
Over his career, Opacic has played 92 NRL games for the North Queensland Cowboys and the Parramatta Eels before joining Hull KR in 2023. Known for his versatility, he has played both at centre and in the second row for Hull KR and has attracted interest from various Super League teams. Nonetheless, Opacic seems inclined towards returning to the NRL, particularly to Brisbane, which is in need of reinforcements due to the departures of Tristan Sailor, who is moving to St Helens, and the uncertain future of Corey Oates with the club.
The potential return to the Broncos would enhance their backline depth, and Opacic’s experience could prove valuable in the upcoming seasons. Reports suggest that Opacic might join Brisbane on a deal worth over $130,000, according to The Daily Telegraph.
During his earlier stint with Brisbane, Opacic was highly regarded by then-coach Wayne Bennett, despite injuries limiting his playing time. His return to the Broncos would be seen as a chance for him to prove himself again and help the team bounce back from a challenging 2024 season.
While Opacic has found success with Hull KR, the prospect of returning to the NRL and his former club seems to be a major draw for him. Hull KR’s recent signing of Rhyse Martin for 2025 aligns with Opacic’s planned departure, indicating a team reshuffle.
