Andrew Cogliano and Pavel Francouz, both integral parts of the Colorado Avalanche’s 2022 Stanley Cup-winning team, have transitioned into new roles within the organization’s front office. Francouz, who formally retired in April due to a season-long injury absence, and Cogliano, who retired the previous month without a defined role, have now been formally recognized for their contributions.
Cogliano, who was present at the NHL Draft in June representing Colorado, has been appointed as Special Assistant to the General Manager. This position is expected to encompass various responsibilities, including scouting activities across professional and amateur levels. Cogliano’s reputation within the team was evident from the warm sentiments expressed by teammate Nathan MacKinnon upon his retirement announcement and subsequent appointment.
“Still upset about his retirement, but I’m glad he’s staying with the team,” MacKinnon remarked. “He’s going to contribute to our success in different ways. Andrew is a fantastic person and one of my favorite teammates ever, so I wanted to acknowledge his retirement.”
Meanwhile, Francouz, following his active involvement at the recent development camp in Denver, has been designated as a Goaltending Scout. This role aligns with his recent contributions to the team amidst his inability to play during the past season. His efforts during the NHL Draft, where Colorado secured multiple goaltending prospects, underscore his commitment to his new scouting responsibilities. This role also allows Francouz the flexibility to reside in the Czech Republic with his family while fulfilling his scouting duties, particularly keeping an eye on prospects like Ilya Nabokov as the KHL prepares for upcoming training camps in early August.
