BREAKING: NUGGETS ACQUIRE CAMERON JOHNSON FROM BROOKLYN NETS IN EXCHANGE FOR MICHAEL PORTER JR.

The Denver Nuggets have acquired Cam Johnson from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Michael Porter Jr. and a 2032 first-round draft pick, Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Ben Tenzer and Executive Vice President of Player Personnel Jonathan Wallace announced today.

Johnson, 29, has appeared in 340 career games (181 starts) over six seasons with Phoenix and Brooklyn, averaging 12.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while shooting 39.2% from long range and 85.1% from the charity stripe. Johnson enjoyed a career year last season for the Nets, setting new career highs in starts (57), points per game (18.8), assists per game (3.4), minutes per game (31.6), field goal percentage (.475) and free throw percentage (.891). He also shot over 39% from three-point range for the fifth time in his six years played.

Johnson, 6-8, 210, has also appeared in 38 career postseason games (seven starts), averaging 10.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists while shooting 41.6% from three in 24.1 minutes per game. The Pennsylvania native was originally selected with the 11th overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft before being traded to the Phoenix Suns. Johnson played three seasons collegiately for PITT before transferring to the University of North Carolina for his final two seasons, earning All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Tournament First Team honors in his final season.

Porter Jr. was selected by the Denver Nuggets with 14th pick of the 2018 NBA Draft after spending one season at Missouri. MPJ appeared in 345 career games (291 starts) for Denver over six seasons, averaging 16.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting 50.0% from the field and 40.6% from three-point range in 29.1 minutes per game. Porter Jr. also appeared in 75 career playoff games (59 starts) for Denver and helped the team win its first NBA Championship in team history in 2023.
