The Houston Astros might soon face the reality of losing another cornerstone player, as negotiations with All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman have reportedly stalled. Astros General Manager Dana Brown confirmed the team’s focus has shifted after offering what he described as a “competitive offer” to retain Bregman.
In light of the standstill, the Astros bolstered their infield by signing Isaac Paredes and first baseman Christian Walker. Brown confirmed that Paredes is slated to play third base, while Walker will take over at first, effectively signaling the Astros are preparing for a future without Bregman.
This development comes on the heels of another major departure earlier in the offseason when slugger Kyle Tucker left the team. Losing both Tucker and Bregman would mark a significant shift in the Astros’ roster and signal the end of an era for a franchise that has been a perennial contender over the past decade.
Bregman, a two-time All-Star, has been a cornerstone for the Astros during his nine-year tenure, compiling a .272 batting average, 191 home runs, 663 RBIs, and an OPS of .848. His departure would not only leave a gap in the lineup but also mark the loss of a player deeply connected to Houston’s identity during its recent run of success.
