The New York Jets are expected to be proactive during the upcoming offseason following a disappointing 2023 season impacted by Aaron Rodgers’ Achilles injury on the season’s opening drive.
The team’s primary focus now is to address the significant weaknesses in their roster, particularly the offensive line and the wide receiver group, aside from standout Garrett Wilson.
According to Albert Breer from NBC Sports, two players worth monitoring in free agency are Tyler Boyd and David Bakhtiari, who previously served as Rodgers’ blind-side protector.
With a staggering 64 sacks allowed last season, it is evident that the New York Jets are in dire need of addressing their left tackle position. Additionally, their No. 2 receiver, Allen Lazard, managed a mere 311 receiving yards, highlighting the urgent requirement for an upgrade at the wide receiver position. These two areas, left tackle and wide receiver, emerge as the most pressing needs for the Jets’ roster.
Currently, the New York Jets have two projected starters on their offensive line: center Joe Tippmann and guard Alijah Vera-Tucker. However, there are concerns as Vera-Tucker is returning from a torn Achilles injury.
In terms of tackles, the Jets have allowed Mekhi Becton and Duane Brown to enter free agency. Even if the Jets choose to draft a tackle with the No. 10 pick in the upcoming draft, it is likely that they will still pursue additional options in free agency to bolster the position.
While David Bakhtiari had an impressive career with the Green Bay Packers, he has faced numerous injury setbacks in recent years. At 32 years old and having played only 13 games in the past three seasons, his potential production remains uncertain.
Tyler Boyd would be a natural fit for the Jets and would have the opportunity to shine outside the shadows of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins in Cincinnati.
Over the past five seasons, Tyler Boyd has maintained a consistent record of participating in a minimum of 15 games per year. Remarkably, despite his consistent performance, Boyd is still only 29 years old, indicating that he has plenty of productive years ahead of him. This makes him an appealing asset for any team, including the New York Jets, as he brings both reliability and relatively youthful energy to the field.
