There remains a pool of available players in free agency who have connections to the Boston Red Sox.
One such player is Enrique Hernández, a former fan-favorite of the Red Sox who is currently seeking his next opportunity. Hernández joined the Red Sox prior to the 2021 season and quickly endeared himself to the organization.
However, he faced challenges during the 2023 season and was eventually traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite his struggles, Hernández showcased improvement during the latter half of the season, leading to interest from multiple teams.
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Los Angeles Angels are reportedly considering signing Hernández, along with other potential acquisitions such as Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, Cody Bellinger, Amed Rosario, and Michael Lorenzen.
As a 10-year veteran, Hernández offers versatility across multiple positions on the field. While he faced difficulties at shortstop in 2023, he excels as an above-average defensive outfielder. Throughout last season, he showcased his skills at first base, second base, shortstop, third base, and all three outfield positions.
Following the departure of Shohei Ohtani, the Angels are actively seeking to bolster their roster. While Hernández wouldn’t entirely fill the void left by Ohtani, he could provide valuable depth across various positions for the team.
