The Florida Gators have officially accepted an invitation to play in the 2024 Gasparilla Bowl, where they will face Tulane on December 20 in Tampa, Florida. This marks the second time in program history that Florida will compete in the Gasparilla Bowl, having previously played UCF in 2021, a game they lost 29-17. This time, the Gators are hoping for redemption after having defeated UCF earlier this season.
Although projections had Florida potentially playing in the Gator Bowl or ReliaQuest Bowl, their 7-5 record places them in the Gasparilla Bowl. The Gators started their season with a 1-2 record and were 4-5 following a heavy loss to Texas, but they managed to finish strong, securing a 7-5 regular-season record.
Florida and Tulane have a long history, having faced off 21 times, with their most recent encounter in 1984. Despite Tulane’s former membership in the SEC, the teams have only met nine times during the 32 years the Green Wave were part of the conference.
Historically, Florida has participated in 48 NCAA-sanctioned bowl games with a 24-24 record. Their last bowl appearance was in the 2022 Las Vegas Bowl, where they suffered a 30-3 defeat to Oregon State. The Gators currently have a three-game losing streak in bowl games, with their last bowl victory coming in the 2019 Orange Bowl, where they defeated Virginia 36-28.
