Finance Expert shares takeover update at West Brom after new loan

Dan Plumley has admitted that West Brom taking out another loan will need to be considered in any takeover negotiations at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies confirmed the additional funding on 27 November, following the £20million secured back in December 2022 secured against the stadium.

The finance expert insisted that the added debt shows pressure on the finances at the club, with that needing to be considered by any new owners if a takeover is complete.

“It shows the pressure on the finances,” he exclusively told West Brom News.

“It’s not the best-case scenario, you can look at it and the way it’s been pitched in terms of the money being available there for football operations which we can discuss at length what that may or may not be used for.

Behind the scenes with that, the loan is still held against the stadium, we’ve seen previous deals in the past that way and that’s not the best scenario for a club to be in as we have said many times before.

The other factor, of course, linked to the takeover, is debt that a new owner has to take on and that has to be part of the negotiations.

You can spin in a way where there is money there for football operations, which may be some small crumb of positivity, but the bigger picture again, it’s another debt load-up, secured against the stadium, and it will be a factor in the takeover negotiations because it has to be considered in the debt make-up of the club.”

In other West Brom news, Plumley has also predicted that a change of ownership is needed at The Hawthorns.
