Chubba Purdy, the talented quarterback with stints at Florida State, Nebraska, and Nevada, has officially committed to the Auburn Tigers for his final year of eligibility. Purdy, widely recognized as the younger brother of San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy, is eager to make an impact under head coach Hugh Freeze in 2025.
The Arizona native began his college career at Florida State during the COVID-affected 2020 season. Over two years, he saw limited action, appearing in four games. Seeking greater opportunities, Purdy transferred to Nebraska, where he played in 12 games over two seasons. While he showed flashes of potential, he faced challenges in securing a consistent starting role, amassing fewer than 1,000 passing yards with six touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Purdy transferred to Nevada in 2024, hoping for a fresh start, but injuries and limited snaps curtailed his season. He appeared in seven games, completing 18 of 25 passes for 239 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Throughout his career, Purdy has also demonstrated mobility, averaging 4.4 yards per carry and scoring three rushing touchdowns, including a standout 2023 season at Nebraska with 6.2 yards per carry on 29 attempts.
At Auburn, Purdy will look to rejuvenate his career under the guidance of Freeze, known for his ability to develop quarterbacks. The Tigers, eager to bolster their depth at the position, view Purdy as a dual-threat talent who can thrive in their offensive system.
A former four-star recruit out of Gilbert Perry High School in Arizona, Purdy was ranked No. 211 nationally in the 2020 recruiting cycle. Despite his collegiate journey involving multiple transfers, his high school pedigree and dual-threat potential remain undeniable.
