Tennessee Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel has high expectations for George MacIntyre, the 2025 four-star quarterback who officially signed during the early signing period on Wednesday. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 190 pounds, MacIntyre, a Brentwood, TN native, is ranked as the No. 10 quarterback in the nation and the top player in Tennessee by 247Sports’ composite rankings.
Heupel praised MacIntyre’s athleticism and adaptability, noting the quarterback’s experience playing in multiple offensive systems during his high school career at Brentwood Academy. According to Heupel, this exposure to various schemes has equipped MacIntyre with the tools to adjust to college football faster than most freshmen quarterbacks.
“George has got a great ceiling and a great future in front of him,” Heupel said. “Extremely athletic, young guy… his ability to improvise, extend plays, and make plays outside of the pocket stands out. Playing in a different offense every year has exposed him to a lot of football and forced him to grow. That diversity helps expedite his transition to college football.”
Although Tennessee’s quarterback depth chart is set for next season, with Nico Iamaleava leading as a redshirt sophomore and Jake Merklinger as the backup, Heupel’s confidence in MacIntyre suggests the freshman will be ready to step up if called upon.
