The upcoming offseason holds much anticipation as fans eagerly await the opportunity to witness what quarterback Hendon Hooker brings to the Detroit Lions. Hooker was chosen by the Lions in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, understanding that his rookie season would primarily be spent recovering from a torn ACL. Despite being promoted to the 53-man roster, Hooker’s role was limited to serving as the emergency quarterback on game days, with the media yet to observe him in a full practice session.
It should be noted that Hooker is not expected to compete for the starting quarterback position, as Jared Goff firmly holds the QB1 role and is likely to receive a contract extension in the near future. Nevertheless, the Lions clearly value Hooker’s potential, evident in their decision to invest a Day 2 draft pick in him.
During Super Bowl week, Jalin Hyatt, a wide receiver for the New York Giants and former college teammate of Hooker’s at Tennessee, shared his thoughts on the promising future of the Lions quarterback. In an interview on “The Morning Huddle” with R.J. Ochoa and Rob Thompson on 94.1, San Antonio’s Sports Star, Hyatt expressed his belief that Hooker is in the perfect situation with the Lions.
Hyatt stated, “I love him. Obviously, he was my quarterback in college, and we have a great relationship. When he got drafted to the Lions, I thought that was the perfect spot for him. The perfect spot, because now he’s getting back healthy. I think that’s the perfect spot for him. He has receivers around him, he has running backs—he has a duo of running backs—he has a good offensive line, great coaching staff. It’s a great spot for him.”
