Djed Spence’s loan spell at Leeds United has been cut short.
The right-back was shipped back to Spurs last week, and there was a suggestion that Spence’s attitude rubbed Daniel Farke up the wrong way.
There’s been a suggestion that the defender clashed with the manager at Leeds, and speaking on the Inside Elland Road Podcast, Graham Smyth has shared one incident that he’s heard may have annoyed Spence at Leeds.
Indeed, Smyth says that he’s heard suggestions from others that Spence didn’t take being substituted against West Brom in late December in what proved to be his final game for the Whites.

Smyth shared what he’s heard about the defender.
“At West Brom when he came off at half-time he was doing a lot of gesticulating and he wanted to speak to whoever he could when he came off, you might interpret that as being grumpy, but others interpret that as leadership. Other people have suggested that when he came off against West Brom he didn’t take it too well and he didn’t look as though he took it too well, but do you want your players to be happy at being substituted?” Smyth said.

We can’t help but think that there’s more to this story than just this.
We’ve seen so many players sulk after being substituted for their teams – Mo Salah did it for Liverpool against Chelsea this season, and there was no problem.
Spence probably was annoyed about being subbed against West Brom, most footballers probably would be annoyed at getting subbed during a defeat, but we have to assume that something else must’ve happened to spark this decision.
The whole story may come out eventually years from now, but, for now, Spence’s departure from Leeds remains shrouded in mystery.
