Furman to Provide Auburn With Solid Tune-Up Opportunity
The Auburn Tigers are gearing up for the 2024-25 season, with their official opener set for November 6 against Vermont. However, head coach Bruce Pearl’s squad will have two chances to face off against another team before the regular season begins, starting with a trip to Greenville, S.C. to take on Furman at Bon Secours Wellness Arena this Sunday.
Pearl, now entering his 11th season at Auburn, believes this matchup will be crucial for his team’s preparation. “We don’t know what we don’t know, and we’re going to find out a lot about ourselves in the next week,” Pearl said, referring to the challenge Furman poses. He credited the NCAA’s recent rule change allowing Division I opponents to play public exhibitions as a great opportunity to test his squad.
Facing Furman is no accident; Pearl praised Furman head coach Bob Richey, calling him a “great offensive coach,” and acknowledged the talent and consistent competitiveness of the SoCon powerhouse. While the game won’t count towards Auburn’s record, Pearl stressed the importance of taking it seriously. “We’re gonna keep the score and we’ll see how we do. I’m not going to be experimenting; I’m going to be doing everything I can to win.”
Tipoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT on Saturday, though there will be no television or radio broadcast for the game.
