Jakeem Grant, the former Miami Dolphins wide receiver and return specialist, is back in the NFL after signing with the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad. Grant had previously spent time with the Falcons during training camp but was released after suffering a hamstring injury. After reaching an injury settlement with the team, Grant became eligible to return once he regained full health.
Grant’s most notable season came in 2021 when he earned second-team All-Pro honors as a return specialist. However, he has been sidelined for the last two seasons due to serious injuries, including a ruptured Achilles tendon in 2022 and a torn patellar tendon in 2023, both of which kept him off the field.
Originally drafted by the Dolphins in the sixth round of the 2016 draft, Grant played five seasons with Miami before being traded to the Chicago Bears in October 2021. During his tenure with the Dolphins, Grant was known for his explosive playmaking ability, especially as a returner. He scored five return touchdowns—three on punts and two on kickoffs. Grant also caught 100 passes for 1,140 yards and 17 touchdowns over his career with Miami, including a standout 2020 season where he recorded 36 receptions for 373 yards and four touchdowns.
As Grant looks to get back to form with the Falcons, his speed and return skills could make him a valuable asset for Atlanta’s special teams unit.
