NEWSFLASH: Newcastle united in a bid to sign Southampton star

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in acquiring Carlos Alcaraz from Southampton, as per a report originating in Italy.

During the winter transfer window, Juventus secured Alcaraz on loan from Southampton with an option to buy for €49.5 million. However, it has been widely circulated in Italian media that Juventus is unlikely to exercise this option, particularly given Alcaraz’s limited playing time of just 379 minutes across 12 games.

With his loan spell at Juventus concluding, Alcaraz is set to return to Southampton. Newcastle United, eyeing potential reinforcements, are now considering a move for the 21-year-old midfielder during the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to Italian journalist Mirko Di Natale, Newcastle United, under the management of Eddie Howe, have initiated contact with Southampton. They have formally inquired about Alcaraz, seeking detailed information on the player’s situation. The extent of their inquiry marks the extent of Newcastle’s interest at this stage.

Southampton, having achieved promotion back to the Premier League, may view Alcaraz as a valuable asset for their future campaigns. This perspective could influence their decision-making regarding the midfielder’s potential sale.

In addition to Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur has also expressed interest in Alcaraz. The Argentine midfielder joined Southampton in January 2023 and is under contract until 2028, highlighting the club’s long-term investment in his talent.

The situation surrounding Alcaraz remains fluid, with developments expected based on the responses from Southampton to Newcastle’s initial approach. The midfielder’s future appears uncertain at Juventus, paving the way for potential negotiations between Southampton and interested Premier League clubs like Newcastle and Tottenham.

Overall, Newcastle United’s pursuit of Carlos Alcaraz underscores their proactive approach to strengthening their squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League season, while Southampton evaluates their options regarding the talented midfielder’s future.
