During a recent appearance on a Hot Ones video with Cam Newton, former Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall didn’t hold back in his criticism of Jay Cutler, labeling him as “the worst quarterback that I played with.” Marshall acknowledged Cutler’s untapped potential and expressed disappointment that he didn’t achieve greater success, stating that Cutler had all the necessary tools to become a legendary quarterback and even win a Super Bowl.
Marshall played for the Bears from 2012 to 2014, catching 279 passes for 3,524 yards and 31 touchdowns during his tenure with Cutler as the team’s quarterback. Despite his relatively short time with the Bears, Marshall still ranks among the franchise’s top 13 players in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdown receptions.
Although Cutler holds several Bears’ records, including completions, passing yards, and touchdown passes, the team failed to make deep playoff runs during his eight seasons. The closest they came was reaching the NFC Championship Game in 2010, where they lost to the Packers.
Marshall also addressed a previous statement where he called Kyle Orton the best quarterback he played with, clarifying that he actually considers Ryan Fitzpatrick to be the best. Marshall played with 17 different quarterbacks over his 13-year NFL career, but Fitzpatrick left the strongest impression on him.
Marshall, a six-time Pro Bowler, retired in 2018 after stints with multiple teams and finished his career with notable statistics, ranking in the top 16 in all-time receptions and top 24 in both receiving yards and touchdown receptions. He was a semifinalist for the Hall of Fame in 2023 but did not advance to the finalist stage.
