The era of Drew Brees leading the New Orleans Saints to glory is firmly in the past. However, the legendary quarterback and future Hall of Famer remains invested in the team’s success and believes there’s a particular coaching candidate who could help guide the franchise back to prominence.
This season was challenging for the Saints. After starting with a disappointing 2-7 record, the team decided to part ways with head coach Dennis Allen. In the interim, special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi stepped into the role, managing a 3-5 record to close out the season. With the offseason underway, the Saints’ front office has begun the search for a new head coach. Among the candidates they’ve reportedly sought interviews with are Mike Vrabel, Kellen Moore, and Joe Brady.
Recently, Drew Brees weighed in on the coaching search during an interview with Crissy Froyd of Saints Wire. While Brees doesn’t have any direct influence over the hiring decision, he made it clear that his top choice for the role is Aaron Glenn.
“Spoke to Drew Brees today on the state of the Saints and their coaching search,” Froyd shared. “He named Aaron Glenn as his top pick for head coach.”
Brees had high praise for Glenn, describing him as a “leader of men” who could bring a fiercely competitive spirit to the Saints.
“The first guy who comes to my mind is Aaron Glenn,” Brees said during the interview. “Arguably, one of the greatest defensive backs to ever play the game. I played against him, and I was a teammate of his too. He’s a leader of men. He garners a ton of respect. He knows the game. He is highly competitive.”
