The 2024 MotoGP title race between Jorge Martin and reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia is set for an exciting conclusion in Barcelona. Martin, riding for Prima Pramac Racing, currently leads by 24 points over Bagnaia from Ducati Lenovo Team after a season marked by Martin’s consistency and Bagnaia’s dominance in Sunday GPs but struggles in Tissot Sprints.
Martin has excelled this year with his steady performance in Grand Prix races, significantly improving over 2023 with consistent podium finishes. His success in the Sprints and his ability to avoid costly DNFs on Sundays have given him an edge, culminating in a total of 485 points so far, a major improvement from his 2023 tally of 428 points.
Bagnaia, on the other hand, has achieved 10 GP wins this season, three more than last year. Yet, his Tissot Sprint performance has dropped, with only 116 points compared to 140 in 2023, partly due to several Sprint DNFs, including critical crashes in Barcelona and Sepang. This decline has hindered his title defense, leaving him trailing by 24 points heading into the final round.
As the season finale approaches, Martin can clinch his first MotoGP Championship if he secures enough points in the Sprint on Saturday. However, with Bagnaia just six points shy of his 2023 winning total, the Italian still has a fighting chance. Fans can expect an intense showdown at the Motul Solidarity Grand Prix of Barcelona, starting Friday, November 15th, as the title contenders battle for the ultimate victory.
