NRL star Josh Addo-Carr has spoken out about his recent decision to take up labouring work on a construction site, following his departure from the Canterbury Bulldogs.
In an interview, Addo-Carr clarified that his decision to join the workforce was not solely driven by financial necessity, as many had assumed.
“It’s not about the money; it’s about staying active, learning new skills, and keeping my mind focused,” Addo-Carr explained.
The 27-year-old winger emphasized his desire to stay grounded and connected to his community, citing his humble upbringing as a motivating factor.
“I come from a family of hard workers, and I’ve always valued the importance of rolling up my sleeves,” he said.
Addo-Carr also revealed that the physical demands of labouring work have helped him maintain his fitness levels during the off-season.
“Labouring is tough, but it’s similar to rugby training – you need endurance, strength, and mental toughness,” he added.
The NRL veteran acknowledged the public’s curiosity about his decision but stressed that he’s enjoying the challenge and camaraderie on site.
“I’m just trying to stay positive, learn from this experience, and come back stronger for my next rugby chapter,” Addo-Carr concluded.
