Brisbane Broncos icon Allan Langer is taking on a new ambassadorial role within the club, following the departure of his close friend and former head coach, Kevin Walters. Langer, a beloved figure in Broncos history and a member of the NRL Hall of Fame, has been involved with the club for over two decades since retiring as a player in 2002. Previously serving as a trainer, he played a key part in keeping morale high on the field and on the sidelines.
With Walters dismissed after a challenging end to the 2024 season, the Broncos appointed New South Wales Blues coach Michael Maguire as the new head coach. Langer decided it was time for a change and stepped down from his role as a trainer, embracing a new position focused on sponsorships and club promotion.
Reflecting on his decision, Langer said, “After a long year, I just felt like I needed a change. I’ve been with the Broncos since the start. I want to be there until the end.” Legendary coach Wayne Bennett praised Langer, calling him “the greatest Bronco,” and recognizing his dedication to the club.
In his new role, Langer will focus on building relationships with sponsors and promoting the Broncos across regional Queensland, and he will also represent the team in Las Vegas for the NRL season opener in 2025. Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy expressed support for Langer’s transition, emphasizing Langer’s enduring commitment to the club and saying, “Alf has a job at the Broncos for as long as he wants.”
Langer shared his excitement for the ambassadorial role, calling it “the perfect role” for him, and looks forward to showcasing rugby league on an international stage in the U.S.
