The Atlanta Braves’ recent trade of Jorge Soler to the Los Angeles Angels has freed up significant payroll space, opening the door for a potential move on high-profile free agents, including star shortstop Willy Adames. By moving Soler, the Braves have cleared $16 million per year from their budget, providing flexibility to pursue big-name targets like Adames, who is projected to seek a six-year, $152 million contract in free agency.
According to FanSided’s matt Olsen, the Braves are now positioned to be “major offseason spenders,” with Adames at the top of their list. The Braves are likely to need an upgrade at shortstop after Orlando Arcia’s performance declined in 2024 following his All-Star season in 2023. Adames, coming off a strong season with career highs in home runs, RBIs, and steals, could be the perfect fit.
The Braves’ interest in Adames aligns with the Dodgers, who are also looking for shortstop reinforcement. The Milwaukee Brewers, meanwhile, hope to retain Adames, though team owner Mark Attanasio acknowledged that other teams might have the financial advantage in bidding for the star.
