In recent developments, another NRL team has reportedly joined the competition to secure the services of Corey Horsburgh, a forward currently under contract with the Canberra Raiders until the end of 2027. Horsburgh, who represented Queensland Maroons last year, has recently been at the center of attention due to his desire to be released from his contract with the Raiders. This decision follows a challenging 2024 season where Horsburgh has struggled with injuries and a significant suspension after a confrontation during a NSW Cup match, limiting his appearances to only two NRL games.
The Brisbane Broncos have emerged as the latest team to express interest in Horsburgh. The Broncos, who reached the Grand Final in 2023, are expected to miss the finals this year and have experienced significant changes in their forward pack. Notable departures include Thomas Flegler and Keenan Palasia, who have moved to the Dolphins and Gold Coast Titans, respectively, as well as Kurt Capewell, who joined the New Zealand Warriors at the season’s start.
Previously, Horsburgh had been linked with the St George Illawarra Dragons and the Wests Tigers, who had shown interest in acquiring him. Additionally, there were reports of Horsburgh meeting with the Canterbury Bulldogs. However, a transfer to the Bulldogs seems less likely at this point. The Bulldogs have already secured forwards Tom Amone from Leigh Leopards and Sitil Tupouniua from Sydney Roosters for the upcoming season, which may shift their focus away from pursuing Horsburgh.
