Former Georgia Bulldogs standout cornerback Kelee Ringo is optimistic about his second NFL season after a modest rookie year. Ringo, who joined the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2023 NFL Draft as a fourth-round pick, feels significantly improved from his debut season. Reflecting on his growth, Ringo noted, “I definitely consider myself a much better football player now. My experiences from playing in games have made me more knowledgeable about the game. That experience and confidence are really helping me.”
Currently, Ringo is at the center of a competitive cornerback battle for the Eagles. The team is searching for a second starting cornerback to pair with Darius Slay. Ringo has been impressive throughout the offseason and training camp, but he faces strong competition from veteran Isaiah Rodgers. Rodgers, who has been getting more first-team reps recently, appears to be the frontrunner for the position. However, Ringo’s performance has kept the battle very much alive.
In the Eagles’ first preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens, Rodgers started but was later replaced by Ringo. During his time on the field, Ringo showcased solid coverage skills and registered two pass breakups, including a key deflection in the end zone. This performance has set the stage for Ringo to further demonstrate his capabilities when the Eagles play against the New England Patriots on Thursday night in Foxborough.
Ringo’s rookie season saw him participate in all 17 games, starting four of them. He recorded one interception, one sack, 21 tackles, and two pass breakups. Prior to his NFL career, Ringo played 30 games for Georgia, starting 27. His college career was highlighted by 76 tackles, 19 pass breakups, and four interceptions. He is especially remembered for his pivotal play in the 2021 national championship game, where he intercepted Alabama’s Bryce Young and returned it 79 yards for the game-winning touchdown, ending Georgia’s long championship drought.
As training camp progresses, all eyes will be on how Ringo performs in this critical competition for the cornerback spot. The ongoing battle will be closely watched to see if the Georgia product can secure a starting role for the Eagles.
