Laine, 26, has two years left on his contract with an annual cap hit of $8.7 million and a modified no-trade clause. To facilitate a trade before the 2024-25 season, the Blue Jackets may need to retain some of his salary. Current reports suggest that Buffalo, Montreal, and Washington are the leading contenders for Laine.
Laine’s recent performance included 18 games last season, during which he scored nine points (six goals and three assists) and recorded six penalty minutes. However, his season was cut short by an upper-body injury and subsequent recovery issues.
