Aaron Judge made history with his 34th home run of the season on Saturday, setting a new record for the New York Yankees for homers before the All-Star break. The milestone occurred during New York’s 6-1 victory against the Baltimore Orioles, surpassing the previous mark of 33 held by Roger Maris, who achieved this feat on his way to a then-single-season record of 61 homers.
Judge had previously broken Maris’s record in 2022 with 62 home runs, establishing a new American League standard. His current season’s total of 34 homers is the highest by any player before the All-Star break since Chris Davis hit 37 in 2013 for the Orioles. Barry Bonds holds the overall record with 39 homers in 2001 while playing for the San Francisco Giants.
The historic home run came in the fifth inning against Orioles pitcher Grayson Rodriguez, with Judge sending the ball flying 431 feet shortly after Juan Soto’s 426-foot homer, extending the Yankees’ lead to 6-1.
