With 136 student-athletes earning this distinction, Tennessee has not only set a new benchmark for its first-year participants but also solidified its position as a leader in academic achievement within the Southeastern Conference.

Men’s track & field emerged as the standout program with the highest number of honorees, totaling 32 individuals. This achievement reflects the dedication and academic rigor maintained by Tennessee’s student-athletes across various disciplines. Women’s track & field closely followed with 28 honorees, underscoring the depth of academic talent within the athletic program.

In addition to track & field, baseball contributed significantly with 25 student-athletes recognized for their academic excellence. Other sports such as soccer (8), men’s basketball (7), women’s swimming & diving (7), and softball (5) also made substantial contributions to Tennessee’s record-breaking tally on the First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll.

The university’s commitment to academic success is further highlighted by the cumulative recognition of 448 student-athletes across all SEC Honor Rolls for the 2023-24 academic year. This achievement marks a notable increase of 46 individuals from the previous year and signifies Tennessee’s sustained growth in fostering academic achievement within its athletic programs.

The criteria for eligibility on the First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll mandate that student-athletes maintain a GPA of 3.00 or above throughout the academic year, including summer sessions. This accolade is reserved for athletes participating in SEC championship sports or those listed on their institution’s NCAA Sports Sponsorship Form, ensuring that the recognition reflects both academic and athletic prowess.

Tennessee’s consistent rise in the number of student-athletes honored on SEC Honor Rolls for nine consecutive years underscores the university’s commitment to excellence in academics and athletics. By cultivating a supportive environment that prioritizes education alongside athletic development, Tennessee continues to set a standard of achievement that inspires its student-athletes to excel on and off the field.

As the university looks ahead, this record-breaking achievement on the First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll serves as a testament to Tennessee’s ongoing dedication to fostering a culture of academic excellence and personal growth among its student-athletes.
