Two additional University of Georgia football players were arrested for reckless driving this week, bringing the total number of offseason arrests for the team to four.
According to a report from 247Sports on Thursday, offensive tackle Bo Hughley was arrested by University of Georgia Police on Tuesday night. He faces charges of reckless driving and failure to maintain lane/improper driving on a road. Hughley was booked at 8:37 p.m. and released by 10:08 p.m. the same night.
The following evening, inside linebacker Smael Mondon was also arrested for reckless driving and racing on highways/streets. Like Hughley, Mondon was booked and subsequently released within approximately an hour and a half.
These incidents mark a troubling pattern for the Bulldogs football program. The first arrest this offseason occurred in March when running back Trevor Etienne faced charges including driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving. In May, wide receiver Sacovie White was arrested and charged with reckless driving as well.
The recurrence of these arrests is particularly alarming given the tragic events of January 2023, when reckless driving resulted in a fatal accident involving a teammate and a staff member shortly after the Bulldogs’ national championship parade. This incident claimed the lives of player Devin Willock and team staffer Chandler LeCroy. Jalen Carter, a defensive lineman who was later drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles, was arrested in connection with the incident and subsequently sentenced to probation for his involvement as the other driver.
