Gary Bettman has recently received official confirmation that it marks the definitive end

The NHL has officially declared the conclusion of the Arizona Coyotes’ franchise following years of unsuccessful efforts overseen by Commissioner Gary Bettman. The team will relocate to Utah, initially allowing for the possibility of returning to Arizona in five years. However, Alex Meruelo, the Coyotes’ owner, has definitively waived this clause by signing the required documents.

Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly confirmed Meruelo’s acceptance and signing of all necessary agreements. This decision signifies the conclusion of a protracted saga for the NHL and stands as a setback for Bettman, who had supported the project for 15 years. The dissolution of the team represents an awkward moment for the NHL, marking the culmination of a contentious and broadly criticized initiative.
