Tara Davis-Woodhall advances to long jump final off one jump.
EUGENE, Ore. – Texas Ex Tara Davis-Woodhall advanced to the USA Team Trials long jump final on Saturday with the top-qualifying jump of the competition.
Davis-Woodhall only needed one jump to advance to the semifinals with her first-round jump of 6.93m (22-9). She’ll compete in Saturday’s final for a spot for her second Olympic games.
In Jamaica, 2023 and 2024 NCAA outdoor long jump champion Ackelia Smith won her national team competition with a jump of 6.53m (21-5.25). Her winning jump came in the third round after two early fouls in the competition. Smith will also compete in the triple jump on Saturday at 4 p.m. CT.
Staying in Jamaica, Texas Ex Lanae Tava-Thomas qualified for the semifinals in the 100-meter dash with her time of 11.27. It was the 15th-fastest time of the night. Sophomore Carleta Bernard finished in 11.48.
Back in Eugene, Texas Ex Elena Bruckner competed in the lone final of the day in the discus and finished sixth with her throw of 60.26m (197-8).
Nine Longhorns later advanced to the semis in their respective events. Freshman Akala Garrett led three Horns in the 400-meter hurdles with the ninth-fastest time of the night in 55.67. Ashley Spencer (57.04) was 22nd with a season best time and Milan Young finished 25th in 57.29.
On the men’s side, Aldrich Bailey Jr., also finished with the ninth-fastest time with his run of 50.41. Sophomore Chris Brinkley Jr., advanced with his time of 50.71 in 14th and recent graduate Caleb Cavanaugh was 25th in 51.50.
Kenondra Davis finished with the 23rd-fastest time in the 200-meter to advance to the semis with her time of 23.21.
John Rutledge (20.43) and Nolton Shelvin (20.53) both advanced to the men’s semi finals on Friday night. Rutledge posted the eighth-fastest time of the night, while Shelvin crossed the finish line with the 14th-fastest.
