On Wednesday, Tennessee women’s basketball head coach Kim Caldwell made the announcement that Lazaria Spearman, a transfer player, has received an SEC Grant-in-Aid (GIA) and Institutional Financial Aid Agreement (IFAA). Spearman, a 6-foot-4 forward, previously played for the University of Miami, appearing in 60 games over the course of the last two seasons. Originally from Dacula, Georgia, and a graduate of Dacula High School, Spearman will enter her junior year during the upcoming 2024-25 season. Her signing marks the second player to join the University of Tennessee under the guidance of first-year head coach Kim Caldwell.
During her time with the Canes, Spearman competed in 60 games, averaging 5.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. She showcased an impressive shooting percentage of 50.5 from the field. Her contributions were instrumental in Miami’s overall record of 41-25. In the 2023 NCAA tournament, Spearman and her team made it to the Elite Eight before their run was halted by LSU, the eventual champions, in a 54-42 defeat.
