Newcastle United Women have achieved a historic milestone by earning promotion to the Championship for the very first time.
On Sunday afternoon, the Lady Magpies secured the National League Premier Division North title with an impressive 10-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at Kingston Park.
A remarkable crowd of 7,382 supporters witnessed the match, including co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodooussi, who actively participated in the celebrations that followed.
The scoring was initiated by Emma Kelly within a mere 15 seconds, marking the first of her two goals. Additionally, Beth Lumsden and Katie Barker contributed with two goals each, while Jasmine McQuade, Charlotte Potts, Kacie Elson, and Georgia Gibson also found the back of the net.
Last year, under Becky Langley’s leadership, Newcastle United Women made history by becoming the first-ever third-tier team to transition into full-time professionalism. With consecutive promotions, they are now only one step away from reaching the Women’s Super League.
Expressing her immense pride in the team’s accomplishment, Staveley took to Instagram to share her thoughts: “Words cannot describe how amazed I am by this team’s performance. They continue to grow stronger with each passing day, and there are no limits to what they can achieve now!”

Previously operating independently from Newcastle United, the Lady Magpies officially came under the club’s umbrella in 2022, and as Staveley stated, they have consistently grown stronger and more successful.
Similar to the men’s team, the aspirations for the women’s team are ambitious. In 2022, Langley expressed her desire to reach the Women’s Super League swiftly in an interview with NewcastleWorld.
Amanda’s vision for both the men’s and women’s teams is to compete at the highest level, including winning the Champions League. This demonstrates the unlimited potential of the club, with no limitations on what can be achieved by both the men’s and women’s sides. Our primary objective is to reach that goal as soon as possible, and we are diligently working behind the scenes to make it a reality.
However, we acknowledge that progress must be made within the appropriate context. Currently positioned in the fourth tier, we understand the importance of gradual development.
