Hugh Freeze, the head coach of the Auburn Tigers football team, received exciting news as Carde Smith, a 4-star offensive lineman, announced his commitment to Auburn. Smith, who stands at 6-foot-6 and weighs 285 pounds, made the announcement on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
Smith had received numerous offers from various programs before making his decision. Auburn was the first SEC program to offer him a scholarship back in September 2023. Since then, nine other SEC programs and several non-SEC programs expressed interest in him.
In the end, Smith chose to stay in-state and commit to the Auburn Tigers. This decision supports Hugh Freeze and Auburn’s staff’s focus on winning in-state recruiting battles. Freeze emphasized the importance of recruiting locally during Auburn’s A-Day spring game, stating that while they can’t fill the entire roster with players from Alabama, winning battles for in-state recruits is a priority for the team. He also expressed satisfaction with their success in recruiting battles within the state for the 2024 cycle and hopes to continue that success in the 2025 and 2026 cycles.
Carde Smith, currently playing offensive tackle for Williamson High School in Mobile, Alabama, is ranked as the 23rd offensive tackle in the 2025 recruiting class and the 16th-rated prospect in the state of Alabama, according to 247Sports.
With Smith’s commitment, Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class now consists of 10 pledges. Smith joins Tavaris Dice, Spencer Dowland, and Tai Buster as the three committed offensive linemen in the Tigers’ recruiting class. The addition of Smith strengthens Auburn’s offensive line for future seasons.
